Project Overview

Hermar replaces a single-story Altadena home lost in the Eaton Fire of January 2025. The owners did not want a house that announced itself as new construction, so we leaned into Spanish Revival: a low clay tile roof, hand-troweled white stucco, and a stucco chimney that anchors the street elevation. Arched windows in dark bronze frames run the length of the front facade and carry all the way through the interior, from the entry down to the arched niche in the hall bathroom's shower surround. Inside, the plan is deliberately open. A wide arched opening connects the kitchen to the living and dining space so the whole main floor reads as one room, with white oak cabinetry, quartz counters, and light engineered oak floors keeping the palette warm rather than stark. The primary suite sits at the quiet end of the plan with a dual-vanity bath in zellige-style tile and a walk-in shower. Everything from the roof assembly to the vents was rebuilt to current wildfire code, and a low stucco garden wall with drought-tolerant planting replaces what the fire took out front.
