Modern bathroom remodel with walk-in shower and marble tile in Los Angeles

Bathroom Remodeling

Master baths, guest baths, and powder rooms — from tile and fixture swaps to full gut remodels with new layouts.

Bathroom Remodeling in Los Angeles

Bathrooms are the second-highest ROI remodel in LA, but they're deceptively complex — waterproofing, drain slopes, vent stacks, tile layout, and fixture rough-in all have to be right or you're dealing with leaks and callbacks. Alto Builders handles the full build so nothing gets missed.

We do design-build or build-to-spec. For design-build, Lana creates 3D renderings in Chief Architect so you can see tile patterns, fixture placement, and vanity layout before demo. Every project is tracked in Buildertrend with daily photos, a shared schedule, and real-time budget updates. CSLB #1118841.

What We Build

  • Master Bathroom Renovations — Full gut remodels with walk-in showers (curbless or curbed), freestanding soaking tubs, dual vanities with stone tops, heated tile floors, and recessed medicine cabinets. We handle waterproofing with Schluter or Laticrete systems.
  • Guest & Hall Bath Updates — New vanity, toilet, tile floor, tub surround or shower tile, fixtures, lighting, and exhaust fan. These are the fastest bathroom remodels we do — typically 3–4 weeks.
  • Shower & Tub Conversions — Tub-to-shower conversions with frameless glass enclosures, linear drains, and custom niches. Or add a freestanding tub where a shower stall used to be. We replumb as needed.
  • Tile & Stone Work — Large-format porcelain, marble mosaics, natural stone slabs, and handmade zellige. We do full waterproofing, backer board, and precision layout before any tile goes up.
  • Plumbing & Fixtures — Thermostatic shower valves, rain heads, handheld sprays, wall-mount faucets, undermount sinks, and water-efficient toilets. We work with any brand — Kohler, Brizo, Waterworks, California Faucets.

Our Process

  1. Design Consultation We measure your existing bathroom, discuss what you want to change, and give you a ballpark. For design-build, you get 3D renderings with tile selections and fixture placement before we start.
  2. Planning & Permits Tile and fixture selections, final drawings, and permit applications. If you're changing plumbing layout or adding electrical, permits are required.
  3. Construction Demo, plumbing rough-in, waterproofing membrane, backer board, tile installation, vanity and mirror, fixtures, glass enclosure, paint, and final connections. Daily photo logs in Buildertrend.
  4. Final Walkthrough We check every grout line, caulk joint, drain slope, and fixture operation. Punch list items get handled before you use the bathroom.

Frequently Asked Questions

A guest bath refresh — new vanity, tile, toilet, and fixtures — runs $15,000–$30,000. A full master bath remodel with walk-in shower, freestanding tub, dual vanity, heated floors, and custom tile is $40,000–$80,000+. The biggest cost drivers are tile selection, shower complexity, and whether you're moving plumbing. We give you a fixed-price contract after design.

A guest bath takes 3–5 weeks. A standard master bath remodel runs 6–8 weeks. A full gut with layout changes and custom tile work takes 8–12 weeks, plus 4–8 weeks for permits in LA. We build the full schedule in Buildertrend before breaking ground.

Yes for any plumbing changes, electrical additions, or structural work. We handle all permit applications and inspections. Even a shower valve relocation technically requires a permit in the City of LA.
