Project Overview

Tucked along the historic Howland Canal in Venice, this custom two-story residence is a modern reinterpretation of the coastal canal home — defined by a sculptural arched barrel roof, dramatic floor-to-ceiling glazing, and a warm, restrained material palette. The silhouette stands out among the neighborhood's eclectic architecture while still feeling at home on the water.

The plan is organized around the rear canal-facing elevation, where a wall of black steel-framed windows and folding glass doors open the main living level to a covered deck with integrated lounge seating and a gas fire pit. Downstairs, the great room flows effortlessly from the open-concept kitchen — anchored by a waterfall-edge island, slab stone countertops, and custom rift-cut oak cabinetry — to a light-filled dining area and intimate den.

Upstairs, the primary suite takes full advantage of the arched ceiling volume with exposed wood detailing, a private balcony overlooking the canal, and a spa-inspired bath finished in book-matched stone. Secondary bedrooms, a dedicated home office, and a flexible loft round out the upper level. Every finish — from the wide-plank white oak flooring to the custom millwork and curated lighting — was specified and installed by the Alto Builders team to deliver a turnkey home that lives as beautifully as it looks.
